Our Story

Founded by Mary McArthur, Pilates Tasmania was established in 2008 to provide the safe instruction of Pilates to both clients and to students undertaking training.

Since then, Mary has become a well known and widely respected teacher within the community, teaching mat work, reformer and studio Pilates to a growing number of clients. She is involved in the Pilates industry at a national level and is currently Secretary of Pilates Alliance Australasia (PAA).

Ella Wong entered into a partnership with Mary in 2014 and later became sole Director in 2020. Under her direction, Pilates Tasmania has grown to operate state wide, with established community group mat classes and workplace partnerships with some of Tasmania’s major employers.

Our Philosophy

If you ask either of us why we choose to work in the Pilates industry, the answer is sure to be ‘because we love it!’

The changes we observe within our own bodies from the practice of Pilates, let alone in those whom we teach, are truly remarkable and we both enjoy sharing our knowledge with all our clients to better enhance their physical health and wellbeing.

We tailor every session with the needs of each individual body in mind. We care deeply about the function of the human body and our aim is to teach functional movement and postural awareness to keep your body strong, flexible, healthy and safe, regardless of age or condition.

Because we love what we do

Contrology (Pilates) develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” – Joseph Pilates
